Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. Christy Mathewson from the T205 Gold Borders, one of the most popular of all 1910-era tobacco issues, in exceptionally high grade. This is a particularly stunning SGC EX+ 70 Mathewson. This gorgeous and conservatively graded card could easily be mistaken for Ex-Mt. The card displays only the slightest hint of white at the tips of the corners, and the slightest hint of chipping to the gold near the center of the extreme edge of the right border; otherwise, the easily chipped gold borders are virtually flawless. Almost perfectly centered (approximately 47/53 L/R), this striking gem has flawless colors and perfect registration. The reverse of the card is also exceptionally bright and clean with crisp, bold blue text and advertising for Piedmont Cigarettes. The card has been downgraded by SGC due to the slightest hint of a surface wrinkle in the upper left corner, which is only visible from the reverse. This is an extremely attractive and high-grade example of the legendary Christy Mathewson from one of card collecting's most popular and condition-sensitive sets. The equivalent SMR value is $1,900.
