Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Offered is a "Blome’s Chocolates" E94 George Close Candy overprint featuring Hall of Famer Tris Speaker. The overprint on this card is an extraordinarily bold, flawless, and vibrant red, and is a perfect strike that really stands out, which of course is ideal for an E94 overprint example. "Overprinting" is a term commonly used to refer to the rare practice of a company taking cards already printed (in some cases even issued by another manufacturer) and adding advertising, in the form of printing or an ink stamp, to allow the cards to function as its own advertising vehicle at modest cost. This card has a brilliant image set against a dark green background, evenly rounded corners, several tiny indentations on Speaker’s hands, and is centered slightly to the left. The card has a Vg appearance, but has been downgraded by SGC only due to surface paper loss along the bottom border. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. |
