DESCRIPTION
Graded VG+ 3.5 by PSA. Presented is one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet-card series: #9 Ty Cobb. Besides being the most valuable card in the set, it is also one of the most desirable and striking of all Ty Cobb cards. This example is bright and crisp, very clean, both front and back, with bold colors, no major creases in the image area (small creases only in the lower left corner), some light edge and corner wear, and very well centered. The checklist back is extremely clean with the only flaw being a very tiny chip of surface paper loss (of little or no consequence) near the lower right edge. This is a very attractive example of card #9 Ty Cobb, in an extremely desirable mid-grade. The classic Turkey Red set is considered by many to be the most beautiful and well-made tobacco set ever issued. The T3 Ty Cobb has always and will always be in high demand, especially a relatively affordable mid-grade example such as this that presents so much better than its technical grade. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
