Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Only one example has ever graded higher. Pack-fresh gem with flawless colors and gloss, bright yellow background, and four razor sharp corners. Centered very slightly to the right, approximately 55/45 L/R. 1958 Topps cards typically suffer from a variety of condition problems, including print defects and a tendency to have soft corners, which make Mint examples particularly difficult to find. When this card was issued, Koufax had yet to establish himself as a star, and his lifetime record to date was a very undistinguished 9-10, with a 4.00 ERA. Better days were ahead, both for him and his baseball card. This is a world-class example, far exceeding the expectations for 1958 Topps. It would be hard to imagine a finer example. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $2,500/$3,500. |
