Very attractive T3 of Ty Cobb, the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet card series. Turkey Reds are considered by many to be the most beautiful and well made tobacco set ever issued. Cobb is not just the most valuable card in the set, it also one of the most well known and popular of all Ty Cobb cards. This example is bright and clean, both front and back, with bold colors, perfect centering, and no creases. The only flaws are its evenly rounded corners and a light stain in the lower right corner (border area only). Technically in Very Good to Vg-Ex condition, this is a card which aside from the noted flaws displays as Excellent condition, and provides collectors a rare, relatively affordable alternative to a far more expensive high-grade example without compromising on all of the most important display value qualities of the card. Sharp corners are great, but they’re not worth an extra $50,000 to everyone. This is a very impressive-looking, technically medium-grade example of one of card collecting’s most classic cards, in a very desirable grade. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. |
