DESCRIPTION
The extremely rare and desirable E90-1 American Caramel card of the legendary Joe Jackson is one of only a handful of cards of Joe Jackson issued during his playing days, and is indisputably recognized as Joe Jackson's rookie card. This card is also one of the rarest cards in the E90-1 American Caramel card set. In recent years the E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson has become universally recognized as one of card collecting's most valuable and famous vintage-card rarities. Jackson was always a very rare card in the E90-1 set, but in recent years it has become all the more apparent that this card is truly the key to the set. Even the few times that sets of E90-1 have been offered in recent years, more often than not, it is really a set minus one card: Jackson. This card dates from extremely early in Joe Jackson’s career, when he was a member of Connie Mack’s Philadelphia A’s. Jackson played only ten games with the Athletics before Mack traded him to Cleveland. This unique example has been trimmed (very slightly on all four sides) and therefore has been encapsulated as "Authentic" by SGC as opposed to being assigned a numerical grade. It was not terribly uncommon in the "old days" for collectors to slightly trim E90-1s to allow them to fit into some styles of album pages. That is why so many E90-1s are slightly clipped along the bottom. This is still a tremendous card, and represents an extraordinary opportunity for the collector who wants a very attractive E90-1 of Jackson at a far more affordable level than a higher-grade example would most certainly cost. This is a far more attractive example than some others examples that have received a numerical grade. The card is crisp and clean, both front and back, with bright colors, just a single light horizontal crease across the top not affecting Jackson's image, and bold printing on the reverse. For a card with a flaw that does not allow a numerical grade, this is a very attractive example of this extremely rare and important card, and one that, like a low-grade T206 Wagner, we believe will always be of great interest to E90-1 and Joe Jackson collectors. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
