Graded NM/MT+ 92 by SGC. Extraordinary and absolutely stunning ultra high-grade example of Mickey Mantle's second Topps card. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's second Topps card is the key to the 1953 Topps set, and one of the most popular of all postwar baseball cards. This is simply an incredible card and is without question the single finest example we have ever seen or offered during the past 35+ years. It is literally bordering on Mint condition. Perfect centering, with bright and crisp colors, perfect pack-fresh gloss, four razor-sharp corners, and a flawless reverse. This card is a blazer! The fact that it is not graded MINT must mean that there is some extremely minor imperfection that was visible to SGC under magnification that kept this gem from Mint status. We can't find it. It was obviously deemed very close, grading between NM/MT and MINT by SGC. If we stare hard enough at the bottom of the flush-to-the-edge red border, a hint of white can be detected along the edge, but we'd still have to consider this card MINT. SGC has graded only four 1953 Topps Mantles at this level, and only two examples higher at the MINT 96 level. This is an incredible high-grade example of one of collecting's most famous cards, and one of the cornerstones to either a high-grade 1950s Mantle card collection or any world-class collection of classic cards. The SMR value for a PSA NM-MT 8 is $7,250.
