Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. Exceptionally rare 1887 N172 Old Judge portrait of Hall of Famer Harry Wright (#510-3 pose). Magnificent example of one of the rarest of all Old Judge Hall of Famers. There are three different poses of baseball's Harry Wright in the Old Judge set, as manager of the Philadelphia Nationals. All of them are portraits. Each is extremely rare. The offered pose is the second scarcest of the three poses. Only two examples are known of the scarcest pose (#510-2). There are fewer than ten examples known of the offered pose, and this is by far the finest! This is the only example graded at this level with none higher (of any pose) by SGC! (PSA has graded two N172 Wrights higher, both of which are the most common pose and possess significantly faded images.) The offered example is perfectly clean, both front and back, with a flawless surface and light wear at the corners. The photograph is a little light, which is a common characteristic of most N172 Harry Wright cards, but still much stronger than most. This is an outstanding example of one of Harry Wright's few baseball cards, and one of the most important cards in the Old Judge series. Reserve $25,000. Estimate (open).
