Outstanding pair of cards featuring legendary Hall of Famer Cap Anson from two of the most popular and classic nineteenth-century sets, each professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). 1) 1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Cap Anson (POOR 10): Very attractive example of the key card from this very popular and colorful set of fifty, issued by Allen & Ginter. Bright and crisp, with flawless image registration, even corner wear, a surface scratch on his left shoulder, and a crease in the upper right. Downgraded due to heavy back damage from album removal. 2) 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions Cap Anson (Authentic): Anson is the key card from this very popular fifty-card set issued by Old Judge and Gypsy Queen Cigarettes. This example is bright and clean, with flawless colors and perfect registration. The front appears Ex but upon close inspection there is evidence of three minor color retouches near the lower left and right borders, and a few tiny areas of paper loss on the reverse (likely from album removal). These cards present a rare opportunity to acquire extremely attractive examples of two of the most classic of all nineteenth-century baseball cards at a small fraction of the cost of a higher-grade example with a similar appearance. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
