Extremely rare Kalamazoo Bats tobacco card, with printed advertising on reverse, of A's outfielder Denny Lyons in a batting pose. Kalamazoo Bats with advertising on the reverse are especially rare and desirable. Exceptional contrast. This is a very attractive low-grade example with tremendous detail, showcasing the Philadelphia ballpark's grandstands in the background, which is one of the trademark characteristics of Kalamazoo Bats. The advertisement print on the reverse is flawless and bold (both of which are particularly desirable qualities for a rare ad back example). Despite its obvious condition problems, this is a very pleasing sample card from one of the nineteenth century's most fascinating and highly prized sets. This card has been slightly trimmed (on all four sides) and has a couple very tiny pin holes and therefore has been encapsulated as "Authentic" by SGC as opposed to being assigned a numerical grade. This is a very unusual, rarely offered, low-grade example of this rare nineteenth-century sample card, providing an extremely desirable, far more affordable alternative to a much more expensive high-grade example.
