Extraordinary near-complete set of D311 Pacific Coast Biscuit Co. cards, missing only eight for completion. The 72-card 1911 D311 Pacific Coast Biscuit Co. set is one of the most distinctive and visually impressive of all Pacific Coast League issues, and one of the rarest of all 1910-era issues. Similar in design and color to the Obak issues of the same period, the front of the Pacific Coast Biscuit cards feature pastel illustrations of players from the six PCL teams while the reverse offers a full checklist with a company advertisement at the bottom. Forty cards have been graded and encapsulated by SGC with an impressive twenty-five existing as the highest-graded example. The SGC grades are as follows: Three EX 60: Chadbourne, Cutshaw, and Stamfield. Six VG/EX 50: Browning, Delhi, Henderson, Kuhn, Peckinpaugh, and Raleigh. Seventeen VG 40: Arrelanes, Bernard, Byram, Hoffman, Hogan, Holland, Melchoir, Mohler, Nourse, Pearce, Pfyl, Schmidt, Seaton, Sheehan, Steen, Wares, and Wolverton. Eight GOOD 30: Christian, Fitzgerald, Gregory, Howard, Murray, Rapps, Tennant, and Van Buren. Four FAIR 20: Danzig, Smith (LA), Smith (SF), and Sutor. Two Poor 10: Pernoll and Vitt. Several of the lower-graded cards present better than their assigned grades, which are technically accurate due to scrapbook residue on the reverse. The ungraded balance of the collection, which consists of nineteen cards in Poor to Fair condition (including three trimmed) and five Good, consists of the following: Agnew, Akin, Baum, Brashear, Brown, Burrell, Castleton, Delmas, Dillon, Gipe, Hosp, Lewis, Maggert, McArdle, McCredie, McDonnell, Metzger, Mitze, Moore, Patterson, Ryan, Stinson, Tiedeman, and Tozer. This is a very attractive collection with exceptional eye-appeal across the board. A rare opportunity to acquire a near-complete set of sixty-four different cards from this extremely desirable and rarely encountered prewar tobacco issue. Total: 64 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+.
