1941 American League All-Stars black bat issued by Hillerich & Bradsby. These attractive commemorative bats were issued only to team members and select team and league officials. As such, they are rarely offered at public auction. This is the first example we have offered and we cannot recall having seen more than a few others in the past 15 years. The bat displays the gilt-stamped names of 27 members of the 1941 American League All-Star Team, including Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Jimmie Foxx, Bill Dickey, Joe Gordon, Joe Cronin, Lou Boudreau, Red Ruffing, Bobby Doerr, and Bob Feller. If a player had a bat-endorsement contract with H&B, his stamped facsimile signature appears on the bat, if not, his name appears in plain block letters. The bat (35 inches long) displays wear to the barrel (especially the barrel end) and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
