Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Superb Kalamazoo Bats tobacco card of A's outfielder Ed Andrews with printed advertising on reverse. Kalamazoo Bats are revered for their great rarity, unusual outdoor poses, unusual size, and unique design. This is an outstanding example that perfectly showcases the great appeal of this rare nineteenth-century tobacco issue. The card presents with exceptional contrast, and the photo is particularly strong, and with an abundance of interesting details that Kalamazoos are so well known for (such as the bleachers in the background, Andrews' classic nineteenth-century mustache, pillbox cap, and uniform suspenders hanging at his sides). Centered slightly to the left, with light wear at the corners. The card has been downgraded due to a horizontal crease extending across the center (more visible from the back) and light toning on the advertising reverse. This is an outstanding sample card from one of the nineteenth century's most fascinating and highly prized sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
