Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. Duke cabinet cards are among the rarest, most impressive, and desirable of all pre-1900 issues. They are also one of the few full-color pre-1900 issues, and the only full color pre-1900 cabinet-card issue. In addition, they were issued in an era (mid-1890s) in which there were very few baseball card sets, making this issue all the more significant to collectors. There are only four ballplayers in this set. Offered is a magnificent sample from this legendary set of early Boston star third baseman William Nash. The card is bright and crisp, with very little edge wear and flawlessly bold colors. The card has two light ink stamps along the top (original owner's name, "Earl Correll"). The blank reverse bears another stamp of the owner's name along with the year 1885 in pen in the upper left corner, a small piece of clear tape, and light toning. Aside from the minor faults, this card displays an overall strong Excellent appearance. This is a beautiful card and an outstanding example of one of card collecting's rarest and most highly prized nineteenth-century cabinet-card issues. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
