Cabinet photo capturing New York Giants pitcher Leon "Red" Ames warming up on the sidelines. The credit stamp of New York photographer, "Duryea," appears both at the base of the mount and on the reverse. The vintage pencil notation "Leon Ames. Pitcher/N.Y. Nats," appears on the reverse. Although no year is listed, the uniform style shown here was only used by the Giants in 1904, 1905, and 1907. Ames made his Major League debut with the Giants in 1903 and played with the club through 1913. A 22-game winner during the Giants' 1905 World Championship season, Ames finished his career in 1919 with 183 wins and a 2.63 lifetime ERA. The photograph, which is in Near Mint condition, slightly overlaps the studio name near the bottom, which, from our research appears to be commonplace for Duryea-branded cabinets. The mount (4.25 x 6.5 inches), aside from the pencil notation on the reverse, remains in Excellent condition. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
