Graded GOOD+ 35 by SGC (submitted by REA). Rare Hall of Famer example of St. Louis Cardinals catcher/manager (as indicated on this card) Roger Bresnahan from the PC743 H. H. Bregstone Postcards series. This card originates from the finest collection of Bregstones to have ever been assembled! (The collection is being offered as several lots in this current auction.) It is interesting to note that this example pictures Bresnahan in a completely different pose (arms at side) compared to other Bresnahan cards from the Bregstone series that we have encountered. (He is commonly found in a "hands on hips" pose.) To the best of our knowledge this is the first example of this pose to ever be offered at public auction. Noted as "among the rarest of early 20th century baseball player postcards" in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, this is only the fifth Bregstone Postcard example that we have offered during the past fifteen years! This series features exclusively members of the St. Louis Browns and Cardinals with each player depicted in a sepia photo posed on a ball field. The offered Bregstone postcard is bright and clean with light, even wear to the corners, and a crease in the lower left. The contrast on this example is a little light, but it is still fairly crisp and strong enough to see the laces on Bresnahan's shoes. The postcard reverse is free of any postmarking and is mainly clean. The year "1910" written in pencil on the reverse accounts for the assigned grade. This is an exceptional Hall of Famer example, representing an uncatalogued pose variation from this rare series, which would make a superb addition to any advanced postcard or prewar Hall of Famer card collection.
