Presented is a rarely offered near-complete set of 1910 E90-2 American Caramel Pirates: nine different of the eleven cards in the set (missing only Clarke and Wagner for completion, both are offered as individual lots in this auction), all graded by SGC. These extremely distinctive and rare "E" cards feature members of the World Champion 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates. This is an extremely attractive set (minus two) with cards ranging in grade from SGC VG 40 to SGC EX 60, which is exceptionally high-grade for caramel cards from the 1910 era. SGC Grading Composite: Two EX 60: Babe Adams and Owen Wilson. One VG/EX 50: Nick Maddox. Six VG 40: George Gibson, Ham Hyatt, Tommy Leach, Sam Leever, Dots Miller, and Deacon Phillipe. Few caramel-card issues are as distinctive as E90-2 American Caramel Company cards. While closely related to the popular E90-1 American Caramel series, E90-2 is a separate set. All feature portraits of Pittsburgh Pirates players. The artworks that appear in E90-2 are among the most detailed of all caramel cards, and are far superior in quality at even a glance to that of most other caramel cards (including E90-1) and other card issues of the era. The cards in this set (minus two) are particularly strong and have tremendous eye-appeal. A rare opportunity to acquire a near-complete set of nine different cards from one of the most desirable of all 1910-era candy issues. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades is $2,670. Total: 9 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
