Graded EX 5 by PSA. A rare caramel issue from 1909, Dockman & Sons shares a similar design with several other related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Nadja Caramels, etc.) from the same era. The offered example of Cleveland Naps Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young has a brilliant image set against a bright orange background, even corner wear (more so on the lower right), and nearly perfect centering. The back is also bright and clean, with bold black text centered to the left. Caramel cards in general are much rarer than tobacco cards of the era. Because they were issued with caramels one card per package and sold to children (as opposed to being sold to adults with tobacco), they also tend to survive in a much lower grade. This is an exceptional high-grade example of the legendary Cy Young from this rare, early twentieth-century candy issue. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
