Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Frank Chance from this very rare and classic 1910-era candy set. The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, the Williams Candy Company was located in Oxford, Pa., and this candy was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children, one card per package of candy. The offered example has a crisp image, a deep red background, even wear to the four corners, and centering toward the upper left. Multiple creases account for the assigned grade. A couple stains visible on the blank reverse. This is a very attractive example of one of Chance's most desirable and striking cards, a worthy and significant addition to any advanced Hall of Fame or prewar-card collection. Reserve $200.
