Official American League (Harridge) ball beautifully signed by Babe Ruth in black fountain pen across the sweet spot. Graded NM+ 7.5 by PSA/DNA (the autograph is graded NM-MT 8 and the ball is graded NM 7, for an overall grade of NM+ 7.5). Based upon the labeling, this ball dates to the 1946-1947 manufacturing period. As such, it was signed by Ruth during the last three years of his life. While PSA/DNA does not yet include half grades in its single-signed baseball SMR report, we note that a Babe Ruth NM 7 ball has an assigned value of $28,500, while a NM-MT 8 has an assigned value of $52,500. Of course, value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, but of one thing we are certain: Ruth balls of this overall caliber are seldom encountered and the opportunities to acquire such high-grade gems are few and far between. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Reserve $10,000. Estimate (open).
