Baltimore Orioles home jersey worn by Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson in 1968. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is the highest-graded Brooks Robinson jersey we have ever offered and we have seen only one other example graded at this level (1963 Orioles home jersey) at public auction in the past fifteen years. The white flannel jersey is lettered "Orioles" across the front and features the number "5" on the left breast and reverse. "B. Robinson" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All front letters, as well as all front and reverse numerals, are appliquéd in orange on black tackle twill. All reverse letters are appliquéd in black tackle twill. The year and set number ("68 - set 1") are chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag located on the left front tail, directly above which is a "Wilson 42" label. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear. Robinson batted .253 with 17 home runs and 75 RBI in 1968. He also led the Orioles in games played (162), at bats (608), hits (154), doubles (36) and triples (6). Considered to be the greatest fielding third baseman in history, Robinson also won his his ninth (out of an eventual record sixteen) consecutive Gold Glove Award at season's end. This is an exceptional Robinson flannel and, as noted in the accompanying MEARS letter, its superb condition is probably related to its never having been sent down for use in the minors (a common practice at the time). Perfect in all respects. Graded A10 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with no deductions). LOA from Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $10,000. Estimate $20,000+.
