Graded VG 40 by SGC. Extremely rare Kalamazoo Bats tobacco card of A's third baseman Joseph Mulvey. This is a very presentable mid-grade example with excellent detail, showcasing the Philadelphia ballpark's grandstands in the background, which is one of the trademark characteristics of Kalamazoo Bats. The image contrast on the card is a little light, there is a crease in the upper left, and even corner wear. The blank reverse is fairly clean and free of any paper loss or back damage which so often affects nineteenth-century cards. Kalamazoo Bats are noted both for their great rarity and unique design. A very presentable sample from this important nineteenth-century tobacco issue. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
