Ticket stub from Game 1 of the 1913 World Series between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Athletics, held at the Polo Grounds in New York on October 7th. In a matchup of future Hall of Famers, the A's Chief Bender outlasted the Giants' Rube Marquard, winning the game by a score of 6-4. Aptly, two of the A's runs came on the strength of a home run off the bat of Frank "Home Run" Baker. The A's went on to defeat the Giants in five games to capture their third World Championship in four years. This is just the second 1913 World Series Game 1 ticket stub we have ever offered and we cannot recall having seen more than one or two others at auction in the past 20 years. The ticket (2 x 2.75 inches), issued for an "Upper Tier" seat, displays light foxing, a light, partial stamp (word illegible) on the front, and the number "25" written on the reverse in blue pencil. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
