Very striking 1887 N172 Old Judge example of Hall of Famer Ned Hanlon (pose #212-3) from the with an elaborate studio background. This is a fresh-to-the-hobby example consigned to this auction by the family of the original owner. Hanlon was a Major League ballplayer with six different teams from 1880 to 1892. He was a consistent player, accumulating over 1,300 hits during his career, but he is best known for his success as manager. Hanlon was the manager of the Baltimore Orioles from 1892 to 1898, a span during which the club won three pennants and two World Championships. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1996. Graded FR 1.5 by SGC (submitted by REA), this card has outstanding photo quality, even corner wear, and centering slightly to the left. The ink marks on the blank reverse account for the assigned grade. An exceptional modestly graded example of a particularly difficult-to-find Old Judge Hall of Famer. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
