Graded VG-EX 4 (MK) by PSA. Scarce N175 "Small" Gypsy Queen of Ed Dailey of the Philadelphia Quakers. This card is the same size and general format as N172 Old Judge, but with a slightly different design, and advertising for Goodwin's Gypsy Queen brand of tobacco. There has always been some confusion as to the catalog number of the smaller Gypsy Queens (similar in size to N172s and not to be confused with the even rarer large N175 Gypsy Queens, of which nine different cards are known) because the catalog does not distinguish between the two sizes of cards represented by "N175." This card has a strong image, a quality highly prized among nineteenth-century collectors. The assigned grade is due to a crease extending across the lower portion of the card, honest corner wear, and the initials “M.N.” written on the reverse (which accounts for the qualifier). A sharp-looking sample from this rare and unusual Old Judge-related nineteenth-century issue. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
