Official National League (Giles) ball signed in blue fountain pen by Cy Young and five other participants in the 1903 World Series: Fred Clarke, Fred Parent, Art Krueger, Tommy Leach, and Bill Dinneen. All the signatures appear together on a side panel with the exception of Clarke, which is located alone on separate side panel. The signatures are all fairly uniform in grade, averaging "6." This ball dates from the early 1950s and was signed at a special reunion of the few then-living participants in the 1903 World Series. That first “Fall Classic” in modern times witnessed Young’s Boston Red Sox defeat the favored Pirates in eight games. This is just the second 1903 World Series signed reunion ball we have ever offered and we have seen few others. As a point of reference, the first one we sold, which appeared as Lot 1001 in our May 2007 auction, realized $8,225. The creamy toned ball features a few minor blemishes and is in Excellent condition overall. Full LOAs from PSA/DNA and Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication Services. Reserve $2,000.
