Mickey Mantle H&B signature-model ("M110") bat issued to Mickey Mantle for use in the 1957 All-Star Game held on July 9th at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Graded GU 9.5 by PSA/DNA. The special block-letter stamping on the barrel reads "ALL STAR GAME" and "St. Louis 1957", respectively, above and below Mante's stamped facsimile signature. The bat displays evidence of outstanding use along its entire length, including numerous ball marks on all sides of the barrel, slight checking (grain swelling) as a result of repeated ball contact, and blue bat-rack marks. A crack in the handle has been professionally repaired. Mantle has signed the bat in blue ink (grading "5/6") directly below the barrel stamping. H&B factory records indicate that Mantle received two bats for use in the 1957 All-Star Game, with the order having been shipped to Mantle on July 5, 1957, four days before game. Mantle had five plate appearances in the 1957 All-Star Game, contributing a single and walk in the American League's 6-5 victory over their National League rivals. As noted in PSA/DNA's accompanying LOA, the amount of use displayed on this bat indicates that it was likely used by Mantle for a period of time after the All-Star Game until the crack forced it into retirement. Mantle followed his MVP Triple Crown 1956 season with another impressive performance in 1957. Playing in 144 games, Mantle finished the year with 34 home runs, 94 RBI, and a .365 average. Those numbers once again earned him MVP honors at season's end. All-Star Game bats have long been highly prized by collectors both for their rarity (only two were issued to each player) and the fact that each can be dated to a very specific year. Those issued to players of Mantle's stature, especially from historic seasons, are all the more significant. This is an extraordinary Mantle bat in all respects and one that would be among the highlights of any advanced Mantle, Hall of Fame bat, or New York Yankees collection. LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (for the bat only) Pre-certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication Services (for the signature only). Reserve $25,000. Estimate (open).
