Graded VG/EX+ 4.5 by SGC (submitted by REA). Presented is one of N172 Old Judge’s great rarities: the 1890 Players' League designation card featuring featuring Ben Sanders (pose #398-3) with Philadelphia. All 1890 Players' League cards are extremely rare and very highly prized by serious nineteenth-century collectors. Only a few examples (in some cases only one) of any given Old Judge Players' League card are known to exist. 1890 was the last year that Old Judge issued baseball cards (in only very limited numbers) and that was also the only year of existence of the short-lived Players' League. This is a very attractive example of this significant rarity. The card has four square corners and the image contrast is light, as is always the case with 1890 Old Judge Players League cards. There is a surface chip in the lower left corner and a few indentations on the reverse, otherwise the back is perfectly clean. This is a very important and extremely rare Old Judge, issued during one of the nineteenth-century baseball’s most turbulent periods. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
