1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet example of nineteenth-century star Ned Williamson, Chicago shortstop (#502-5), posed in front of an elaborate studio backdrop. This card is part of an exciting, fresh-to-the-hobby find of ten N173s, including three Hall of Famers, discovered by a non-collector in the Midwest, all consigned to this auction. This is a very attractive example with outstanding photo clarity. The mount has a tack hole in the lower right, as well as two addtional tack markings on the left edge . The blank reverse has a tape stain and a faint ink stamping in the center, and moderate soiling. Encapsulated as Authentic by SGC (submitted by REA) due to color added on the lower right corner of the photo. This is a very attractive lower-grade sample from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
