Circa 1888 trade card issued in promotion of "Headlight Cigars." The colorful graphics on the front feature a game-in-progress scene, with the caption reading "Base Ball at our Picnic." The novelty of the illustration is that all of the players are in exaggerated poses, with the umpire standing in a cage behind the catcher. The text along the base urges customers to "Smoke 'Headlight' Cigar." Further advertising on the reverse reads "Smoke 'Head Light' Cigar 5 cents 5 cents Look for the Red Tag on Each Cigar." This is the first example of this attractive baseball trade card we have ever seen. The card (4.25 x 3 inches) displays several areas of surface paper loss on the reverse from its once having been mounted in an album. SGC has encapsulated the card and graded it POOR 10. It should be noted; however, that the SGC grade is predicated mainly on the reverse flaws and that the front is closer to Ex-Mt in its overall appearance. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
