Scarce cabinet card picturing an unidentified member of the Sioux City Cornhuskers. The formal studio photograph pictures the player in uniform, with the jersey featuring the letters "SC" on the front. The photographer's credit, "Hamilton/Sioux City, Iowa," appears in gilt lettering along the base. Additional advertising for the Hamilton photography studio appears on the reverse. While we cannot state with certainty, we believe the lettering on the jersey, combined with the photographer's Sioux City, Iowa, location, identifies this player as a member of the Sioux City Cornhuskers. The Cornhuskers were a member of the Western Association from 1888 to 1891, and three years later, in 1894, they joined the newly formed Western League for one season before folding. All material relating to the Sioux City Cornhuskers is exceedingly rare. This is the only Sioux City player cabinet card we have ever seen and we are not familiar with any team photos of the club. The photo, which offers exceptional clarity, remains in Near Mint condition. The mount (4.25 x 6.5 inches) displays light wear along the bottom border and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition.
