Rare sample card from the legendary E107 Breisch-Williams series featuring pitcher Tully Sparks of the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League. Sparks is pictured wearing his Boston uniform from the 1902 season, and is identified with Philadelphia, his 1903 team. A rookie in 1899 when relief pitching was a rarely practiced art, Sparks topped the National League in relief innings pitched and relief ERA. He became a starter in the Phillies' rotation in 1903, highlighted by a 22-8 career best in 1907. Graded PR-FR 1 by PSA due to a number of condition flaws, including creasing, heavy soiling, evenly rounded corners, and paper loss on the reverse. The fact that the E107 set is the only major card issue of its era and includes so many players that appear in few or no other sets is part of its great significance and appeal to advanced collectors. This is a relatively affordable example from this extremely important and elusive set. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
