Graded EX 60 by SGC. Extremely rare and desirable 1889 N172 Old Judge of Hall of Famer Ed Delahanty (#123-1 pose) dating from his playing days as a second baseman with the Philadelphia Quakers. Ed Delahanty is one of the rarest of all Old Judge Hall of Famers. All five poses of Delahanty in Old Judge were issued only in 1889, a particularly scarce year compared to 1887 and 1888, no doubt contributing to Delahanty's significant rarity. While this card features Delahanty with the Philadelphia Nationals in his second year in the Majors, it is the first of his few baseball cards ever issued, and as such would be considered Delahanty's rookie card. This is a simply outstanding card! Bright and clean, with excellent photo quality, near-perfect centering, and light, even corner wear. The contrast is virtually unimprovable! The blank reverse is clean. This is an extraordinary world-class example of one of the key nineteenth-century and Old Judge Hall of Famer rarities, and would be a significant addition to any Old Judge, nineteenth-century, or Hall of Famer card collection. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+.
