Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Highest-graded example by SGC! Extremely high-grade N172 example of Louisville Colonels infielder Joe Werrick (#489-3 pose) with 1888 copyright date. Few Old Judges have survived in this extraordinary like-new condition. Anyone who has ever sent N172 Old Judges to SGC or PSA knows what a miracle it is to have an N172 be returned with such a high grade. Of the 9,352 N172 Old Judges graded by SGC to date (and of course those submitted for grading tend to be only the very best of all Old Judges; most N172s that will not grade highly are just not sent in for grading), only sixty-one examples have ever graded SGC 8 (or 8.5), only five have graded SGC 9, and only one has graded 10. This is a stunning high-grade N172 Old Judge! It is an ideal sample. Bright, crisp, and clean, front and back, with square corners, a flawless surface, and outstanding contrast. The reverse is perfectly clean. This is a very striking high-grade example from the most important of all nineteenth-century sets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
