Pair of cabinet cards each picturing a member of the Norfolk Jewels, circa 1897. Each of the formal studio photographs captures the player in uniform, complete with pillbox cap. The name and address of the photographer, B. S. Campbell - Norfolk, Va., appears on both the base of the mount and reverse. Both players are identified in vintage black ink at the base of the mount: "Leahy - SS" and "Wheil, IF." (It should be noted that the identification of Weihl is based solely upon the printed notation. We have been unable to find another photo of him to corroborate the identification.) Both Leahy and Weihl played with Norfolk only in 1897. Of the two, only Leahy played in the Major Leagues, but his time was brief, with his entire career consisting of two games with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1896. Each of the cabinet cards (4.25 x 6.5 inches) displays light edge wear and is in Excellent condition overall without respect to the ink notations identifying the players. Total: 2 cabinet cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
