Real-photo postcard capturing 20 members of the 1907 American League Champion Detroit Tigers in a classic team pose, including Ty Cobb, manager Hughie Jennings, Sam Crawford, George Mullin, and Germany Schaefer. The white-letter caption along the base reads “Detroit Club” 1907 marked the first of Detroit’s three consecutive American League Championship seasons, all of which ultimately ended with a World Series loss. Addressed and mailed, with the postmark dated "Oct 8 1907." October 8th was the date of the first game of the World Series and it is almost certain that these postcards were published in Detroit before and during the Series. The postcard (5.5 x 3.5 inches) displays a tiny edge tear along the top border and moderate wear along the perimeter. Encapsulated and graded POOR 10 by SGC. Despite the flaws, the photo offers outstanding clarity and contrast, and the card presents at a much higher level than suggested by its technically accurate grade (much of the grade is predicated upon the fact that it is addressed and mailed). Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
