Graded VG 3 by SGC (submitted by REA). This extremely rare E101 "Set of 50" candy card features the legendary Honus Wagner in a batting pose. The manufacturer of E101 is unknown. The batting pose of Wagner on this card is identical to that found in several rare sets of the era, including T216 Kotton Tobacco and E102 "Set of 25." The back simply reads "This card is one of a set of 50 Base Ball Players - Prominent Members of National and American Leagues." In 1909, Wagner led the league in every major batting category including batting average, on-base percentage, total bases, and RBIs. The card has bold colors, evenly rounded corners, and a natural diamond cut on the top and bottom. The light creasing and few spots of paper loss on the reverse account for the assigned grade. This is a very attractive example of one of Honus Wagner's most elusive cards, issued at the peak of his career. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
