CDV picturing two baseball players, circa 1870s, posing together in a formal studio setting. Each player is dressed in an identical uniform, including cap, belt, and cleats. Like nearly all CDVs from the era, the players remain anonymous. The only clue we have regarding team affiliation comes from the photographer's credit stamp on the reverse, which reads "J. Sweeney, Photographery No. 43 Market Street, Montgomery, Ala." A name, which appears to be "J. W. Hausel" is written on the reverse in pencil, but it is not known if that is an identifier for one of the players pictured, or the name of a former owner. The CDV (2.5 x 4 inches) displays light surface wear, including minor foxing on the reverse, and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
