Presented is a remarkable N175 "Small" Gypsy Queen of Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Pud Galvi. Gypsy Queen was one of Goodwin's tobacco brands. This card is the same size and general format as N172 Old Judge, but with a slightly different design, and advertising for Goodwin's Gypsy Queen brand of tobacco. There has always been some confusion as to the catalog number of the smaller Gypsy Queens (similar in size to N172s and not to be confused with the even rarer large N175 Gypsy Queens, of which nine different cards are known) because the American Card Catalog does not distinguish between the two sizes of cards represented by "N175." The offered card is centered to the left, with lightly rounded corners, and a small chip of paper loss on Galvin's left leg. A crease extends up from the botttom edge (more visible from the back) and the blank reverse has a purple ink stamp, as well as evidence of erased pencil. Despite the obvious condition flaws, the card has a striking appearance and still displays bold contrast. This card represents a unique opportunity to acquire an almost never offered Hall of Famer example from this unusual Old Judge-related nineteenth-century issue. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
