Substantial collection of seventeen different E101 Anonymous “Set of 50” cards (of the 50 in the set). These cards are part of an exciting, fresh-to-the-hobby collection consigned to this auction by the family of a Midwestern collector who built his impressive collection over a period of many decades, beginning as a young boy in the 1930s. The manufacturer of this 50-card set is unknown. The fronts are identical in design to the E92 related issues. As is the case with most 1910-era tobacco and “E” card issues, E101 cards each measure approximately 1.5 x 2.75 inches. All seventeen cards from the group have been graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). This collection consists of the following: VG 3 (3 cards): Bemis, Gibson and Miller/batting. GOOD+ 2.5 (7 cards): Bescher, Doyle/throwing, Knabe, Lobert, McLean, O'Hara and Smith. GOOD 2 (2 cards): Knight and Shaefer. FAIR 1.5 (3 cards): Bergen, Schmidt and Zimmerman. POOR 1 (1 card): Casey. Authentic (1 card): Donovan. This is a very attractive mixed-grade collection with most cards appearing better than their technically accurate assigned grades. Caramel cards, because they were issued with candy, one card per package, did not easily escape damage or hold up well to wear over the years. This is a very rarely offered large group representing 34% of a complete set of E101s, one of the most popular, elusive, and colorful of all “E” card issues. Total: 17 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
