Presented is a modestly graded sample of Bill Abstein (St. Louis) from the E104-3 Nadja Caramels set, one of the most distinctive, unusual, and important rarities of all 1910-era caramel-card issues. These cards are often confused with similarly designed "E" card and related sets (especially E104-1 and E104-2), but are distinct, featuring designs that are unique to this set, and therefore have an enormous significance to 1910-era cards and caramel cards in general that is often overlooked by collectors, probably in large part because all cards from this set are so incredibly rare. To date, thirty-seven different subjects are known, featuring players from five different teams (mostly Tigers, Phillies, and Giants players, but one Cleveland player and two Cardinals are also known). Graded PR 1 by PSA, the offered example displays heavy creasing, evenly rounded corners, and light soiling. It also features a desirable advertising reverse (displays evidence of album removal), with a boldly printed Nadja Caramels advertisement. (These cards are also found with blank backs.) A presentable sample of a significant caramel-card rarity. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
