Collection of four out of five Hal Chase poses from the classic T206 White Border series, each graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Chase was, in fact, a major star of the day, but his involvement with gambling and with unsavory characters undermined his legend, and ensured that he would forever remain a "non-Hall of Famer." He had been accused of throwing games numerous times; it is universally agreed (both then and now) that these accusations were well founded. He "retired" following the 1919 season after being implicated in the Black Sox scandal. Still, his charisma and his Hall of Fame caliber ability (when he wasn't throwing games) won him many fans, and makes him one of the most interesting players of his era. All have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal adverting backs. This collection consists of the following: Chase/holding trophy (GOOD+ 2.5), Chase/portrait, blue (VG/EX+ 4.5), Chase/throwing, dark cap (EX 5), and Chase/throwing, white cap (VG/EX 4). Each card is bright, crisp, and clean and would make a worthy addition to any high-quality T206 set or Hal Chase collection. Total: 4 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
