Graded VG 40 by SGC. Exceptional example of Cleveland Naps Hall of Famer Addie Joss from the T205 Gold Border set. Bright, crisp, and clean, with brilliant colors, perfect registration, even corner wear, and outstanding centering. The reverse of the card is clean with bold blue text. Piedmont advertisement. Joss is a particularly significant card in T205 because he is both a key Hall of Famer and also one of the rarest cards in the set. This is an even more significant card than most collectors realize, as the T205 of Joss is actually a memorial card. Joss tragically passed away from meningitis on April 14, 1911, cutting short one of baseball's greatest careers. Few collectors realize that the text on the reverse of the card specifically refers to his death in 1911 as a "great loss to the game," closing with "He was a faithful player liked by his team mates and respected by the public, many thousands of whom attended his funeral." This is an outstanding mid-grade T205 and an extraordinary example of one of the most important and desirable cards ever issued of legendary Hall of Famer Addie Joss. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
