Exceptional and extremely rare example of #JBR67 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig from the unusual King Magazine set issued in circa 1930. This card (2 x 3 inches) is from a multi-subject set issued in Japan that features 48 different subjects (including athletes, movie stars, politicians, etc.) and is the only card in the series representative of the game of baseball. This is an extraordinary card. It is one of the few vintage cards featuring Ruth and Gehrig together on the same card, and it is from one of the few card sets produced during the prime of their careers. Few card issues of any type approach the rarity of this unusual issue, which is no doubt related to the fact that they were issued only in Japan. This is the key card of the set and the first example we have ever offered. The photograph used for this card is unique to the set. The card pictures the two sluggers dressed in cowboy gear appearing at Dexter Park just three days after the Yankees won the 1928 World Series. Crisp and clean, the offered example boasts a flawless image of the two stars and a perfect surface, free of any creasing or wrinkling, and centering toward the right. The corners are strong and show light wear. Clean and boldly printed reverse (the text is in Japanese). Encapsulated Authentic by SGC due to being hand cut inside the dotted lines. An incredible example of this extremely rare foreign card featuring two of the greatest players ever to play the game and a card that would be a worthy addition to even the most advanced Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, or prewar-card collection.
