Original news photo capturing Babe Ruth posing with a young fan, both of whom are proudly wearing their "Babe Ruth" brand sweaters. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. An International News Pictures credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does the original paper news caption, dated "5-10-23" (the news caption at one time became detached and is now affixed to the reverse by means of clear tape; it partially covers the International News Pictures stamp). The news caption is titled "A Pretty Lucky Guy" and reads "This schoolboy had the honor of being presented with a 'Babe' Ruth sweater by the mighty mauler himself, and a stunt that made a hit with the bleacherites. Note that the Bambino also wears one with his moniker on the front." The date stamps "15 Jun 1923" and "24 Aug 1927" appear on the reverse, along with a few editorial ink notations. While we have never seen an example of a "Babe Ruth" retail sweater, we have seen a retail counter sign that featured this very image. The advertising text on the display, which appeared in the upper right of the image, read "The 'Babe' Ruth Sweater for Boys." The photo (6.5 x 8.5 inches) displays a number of light creases and a small, light area of discoloration(partially on and to the left of Ruth's image). In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
