Original news photo capturing Babe Ruth during his final appearance at Yankee Stadium on June 13, 1948. Encapsulated and certified as an Original Type I photo by PSA/DNA. The poignant image pictures a frail Babe Ruth emerging from the visitors dugout holding a bat and tipping his cap to the fans for the last time. Ruth, who was gravely ill at the time (he died 2 months later), was one of the honored guests of the day, as the club retired his famed number "3" during a ceremony celebrating the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium. This was also the game at which Nat Fein took his famous photo of Ruth, titled The Babe Bows Out. A "International News Photos" credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with the original paper news caption, dated 6/13/48. The photo (10 x 8 inches), displays light-to-moderate creasing and a small tear along the lower left border. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
