Presented is a very attractive mid-grade near-complete set of Topps "Scoop" cards consisting of 152 cards out of 156 in a complete set. Issued in 1954, "Scoops" is one of the most highly regarded and popular of all postwar sets. Each of the card fronts feature beautiful full-color illustrations of a great event in American history, accompanied by a miniature "newspaper headline" and story on the reverse. In addition to being a truly fascinating educational set throughout, there are eleven cards related to sports figures in the set, including Babe Ruth. Missing just the following four cards for completion: #123, 128, Owens Races Horse, 129 Hogan New Golf King, and 151. Fifteen cards from this near-complete set show light remnants of carefully scratched off coating. Condition is 50% Vg-Ex to Ex (mostly Vg-Ex), 36% Vg, and 14% lesser (including some due to tape residue). Keys: #3 Lindbergh Flies Atlantic (Vg-Ex), 27 Feller Strikeout King (80/20 L/R, otherwise Vg-Ex+), 39 Dempsey Defeats Williard (Vg), 40 Louis New Champ (10/90 L/R, otherwise Ex), 41 Babe Ruth (Vg), 65 Marciano KOs Walcott (Vg), 71 Sullivan Defeated (Gd), 110 Notre Dame's 4 Horsemen (Vg), 130 Braves Go To Milwaukee (Vg-Ex/Ex), and 154 26-Inning Tie Game (99/1 T/B, otherwise Vg). This classic and always very popular non-sport set is filled with many great historical figures. This is an outstanding mid-grade near-complete set of this scarce, early Topps issue. Total: 152 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
