Issued in 1884 by the Lawson Card Company of Boston, Massachusetts, the Lawson's playing-card set features thirty-six cards with extremely striking baseball-related designs. The backs feature a very attractive baseball scene in blue and white. Offered is a complete 36-card standard-edition Lawson's set in outstanding overall condition. The set has been extremely well preserved for over 130 years in its original box, which accompanies. The condition is 80% Nr/Mt-Mt to Mint and 20% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (including one Ex). The set is also accompanied by the original 20-page instruction booklet explaining the rules of the game, which features a black-and-white woodcut of a batter on the cover, and two "value of cards" cards (both Nr/Mt-Mt), which explain the scoring of the game. The instructions booklet is complete and intact, with creasing to front and back covers. The original box grades Fr-Gd due to pencil marks, small tears, moderate creasing, light soiling, and a small spot of paper loss resulting from a partially removed price sticker. The small covering flap is detached (but included). Total: 40 items (complete set of 36 cards, one rules booklet, original box, and two "value of cards" cards). Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
