Graded VG 40 by SGC. Rare N175 "Small" Gypsy Queen of John (Tug) Arundel (Indianapolis). This card is the same size and general format as N172 Old Judge, but with a slightly distinctive design, and advertising for Goodwin's Gypsy Queen brand of tobacco. There has always been some confusion as to the catalog number of the smaller Gypsy Queens (similar in size to N172s and not to be confused with the even rarer large-sized N175 Gypsy Queens, of which nine different cards are known) because the ACC does not distinguish between the two sizes of cards represented by "N175." This card has an extremely strong image, a quality highly prized among nineteenth-century collectors. The card displays even wear at the corners, light creasing above his image, and faint pencil writing in the background. The blank reverse is lightly toned but otherwise clean. This is an extremely sharp-looking sample from this rare and unusual Old Judge-related nineteenth-century issue. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
