Graded GOOD 2 by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with just one higher! Extremely presentable low-grade example of New York Giants Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson in a throwing pose from the rare and highly regarded PC805 postcard set issued by the Novelty Cutlery Co. of Canton, Ohio, in 1910. The PC805 series is universally recognized as one of the most desirable of all baseball postcard issues. These cards have always been appreciated by collectors both for their extreme rarity and distinctive style. This very attractive example of Christy Mathewson is one of the key Hall of Famers in the Novelty Cutlery set. The offered card is very crisp and clean, with light wear to the corners, and a couple unobtrusive creases (mainly by his right foot). If not for the lower right corner missing the card would easily be Vg+ or slightly better. The reverse is perfectly clean and has never been written on or mailed. This is an exceptionally rare card of one of the era's most legendary stars. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
